ABOUT COFFEE LOGS

A compact fire log for wood burners and multi-fuel stoves, Coffee Logs are sustainably made from recycled coffee grounds and they really turn up the heat. Burning 20% hotter and longer than kiln-dried wood, Coffee Logs help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avoid the heavy carbon footprint created by coal.

Coffee Logs are made from waste coffee grounds collected from cafes, offices and instant coffee factories, and even airports, train stations and universities throughout the UK, giving your daily hit of caffeine a second life. In fact, each log is made from around 25 cups of coffee!

Please note the single bag variation of this product is an additional product and does not qualify for free local delivery if purchased in an order less than £175 in value.

The UK alone drinks 95 million cups of coffee every day, fuelling not only the daily grind but also a growing amount of unnecessary waste. All that barista brilliance creates around half a million tonnes of wet coffee grounds typically headed for landfill, where they emit harmful greenhouse gases, including methane.

By recycling the nation’s cappuccinos into Coffee Logs heating briquettes, we reduce emissions by 80% compared to those grounds sitting in landfill, making these efficient logs a sustainable alternative for fuelling your fire without heating the planet.

New burn emissions regulations

On 1st May, new government regulations on the sale and burning of domestic solid fuels came into force, putting in place a ban in England on the sales of traditional house coal and wet wood. The regulations also bring in a new certification scheme (known as ‘Ready to Burn’) for manufactured solid fuels that are deemed ‘smokeless’.

This certification scheme sits alongside the already existing scheme for dried wood, which is also known as ‘Ready to Burn’.

DEFRA has chosen to exempt Coffee Logs and other innovative biomass fuels from the certification schemes, as these fuels are relatively new to the solid fuels category and sit outside the traditional classifications of coal and wood; classifications upon which domestic solid fuels emissions regulations have historically been based.

The new regulations stipulate that all manufactured solid fuels (i.e. smokeless fuels, which are primarily fossil-fuel based) must contain less than 2% sulphur and emit less than 5g of smoke per hour. Like wood logs, our Coffee Logs (fire logs made with recycled coffee grounds), only meet these limits in closed appliances (e.g. stoves) and as such neither wood nor Coffee Logs are deemed smokeless fuels.

DEFRA is currently creating an emissions testing regime for this new category of innovative biomass fuels (including our Coffee Logs) that are not made with fossil fuels and which sit outside the traditional solid fuel classifications. We are in active discussions with DEFRA to support and advance the creation of this new testing methodology.

In the meantime, Coffee Logs are permitted by DEFRA for sale and are safe to burn.

We welcome the government’s move as a significant step in the right direction for reducing reliance on carbon-heavy fossil fuels and cutting emissions contributing to climate change.

About Coffee Logs

Made of recycled spent coffee grounds, Coffee Logs are designed for use in wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves. They can be used instead of or alongside dry wood logs and, in fact, burn hotter than kiln-dried wood due to their naturally high calorific value.

Coffee Logs reduce waste by reusing coffee grounds that would otherwise be discarded and they avoid the heavy carbon footprint created by coal and other fossil fuels. By recycling spent coffee grounds into Coffee Logs, we save 80% on CO2e emissions compared to the grounds being sent to landfill.

Coffee Logs are available across the UK in major supermarkets, DIY retailers and garden centres. To learn more about Coffee Logs, visit the Coffee Logs website.

Instructions for burning

Coffee Logs are the ideal fuel briquette for use in closed appliances such as wood burners and multi-fuel stoves.

For the perfect Coffee Logs fire:

  1. Place firelighters on appliance bed and cover with kindling. We recommend using sustainable firelighters where possible.
  2. Add two or three Coffee Logs.
  3. Light the firelighters and let the fire establish itself.
  4. When the fire is established, add more Coffee Logs as required. We recommend no more than two or three at a time, though. They kick out a lot of heat!
  5. Coffee Logs will burn best when undisturbed. Avoid prodding or stoking them.

Coffee Logs can be used on their own or together with wood logs. Remember to always follow your appliance manufacturer’s guidelines for safe and efficient burning.

Safety Precautions

  • Always follow the specific guidelines for your appliance, and never leave it unattended when you’ve got a fire going.
  • Store your Coffee Logs in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, and at a safe distance from your appliance. After all, they are combustible.
  • Coffee Logs are not suitable for barbecues or other open fire cooking.
  • Coffee Logs contain a high amount of caffeine, which can be potentially harmful to humans and animals if ingested. It’s best to keep them out of reach of children and animals and to seek medical advice if swallowed.

Nationwide pallet delivery is available for this product.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that a pallet carrier can access the specified address. The site needs to be reasonably level as our pallets often weigh well over a tonne. The access needs to have minimum width of 2.8 metres and 5 metres headroom. The driver will have a small pallet truck to move the pallet off the tail lift but this will not operate over uneven or soft ground or gravel.

The delivery location must normally be able to accept vehicles up to 26 tonnes. However, if you advise us, we can instruct the delivery company to send a smaller vehicle. If you require a vehicle of 7.5 tonnes due to recent changes (weight restrictions on unloading) any pallets ordered will be required to be processed as half pallets instead of full pallets, so will incur added delivery charges.

Please contact us on 01768 896 634 before placing your order if your delivery address can not facilitate a large vehicle.
